Voice Activation

Chart-It has used a number of voice products over the years.  Two of the primary vendors are no longer in business, however, we will attempt to support these to the best of our ability.  As of version 8.1, these products should still work since we have not changed the voice technology programming.  Unfortunately, we do not possess these units to test with.  These vendors are Voice Connexion and Verbex.   Due to changes in the Windows environment, we are unable to guarantee that future versions will support these discontinued products.

The staff at Chart-It are currently reworking the voice section to be fully compatible with the Microsoft Voice system that comes with XP Pro.  The information listed below is standard for all voice systems that integrate with Chart-It.

Speaking

You should speak in a natural tone, just as you would normally talk.

Do not yell into the microphone.  This is especially true while you train the system to recognize what you say:  The voice recognition board remembers everything you say.

Say one word at a time.  The system does not recognize continues speech for the action part of the program.

The voice system looks for the length of the spoken word as well as the intensity with which it is said.  Remember to always say words the same way.

We highly recommend that you train in the exact environment that you will be working in.  If you are going to be using a mask when working, then train with a mask.  We also recommend that you train the system at least seven times.  If you have trouble with a specific word, then train that word.

Consult your individual voice manual as each system training is unique.

Hints

Speak clearly in a normal voice.

Pause between words of different commands.  Do not pause between words of the same command.  For example, pause between "GoTo" and "32" but flow the words "Previous Delayed Bleeding" together into one long word.

Do not yell if the system does not accept a word.  Instead, repeat it the way you did in training.

Try to make one word command of multiple letters or multiple words.  FGM should be spoken as "FGM" (efgeeim), not "F" "G" "M" (ef  gee  im).

For best results train the system multiple times.  The system accuracy improves with training.

Try to remember, if you take the time to set up the system properly the first time, you will save many hours of time a frustration.
